London Broil Marinade – Just 4 Ingredients!
My go-to london broil marinade recipe with mustard, balsamic vinegar and garlic. This tender cut of beef is a family favorite. Everyone is happy when mom makes London Broil for dinner!
I picked up a London Broil the other day on sale at Publix. I wanted to treat my husband to a good steak dinner….since that is his favorite…and since I’m watching my calories, I compromised by picking up a leaner cut of beef like this one so I wouldn’t feel too guilty eating it with him. I love how economical London Broil is…it’s often on sale and you can get several meals from one good sized steak.

I made the best London Broil recipe again recently and my family raved about it. I must still not be cooking steak for them very often, ha ha. It’s still a treat.
What’s a good marinade for London Broil?
I have been making this marinade for London Broil for over 10 years and it is absolutely delicious. All you need is balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard and lots of garlic to create the best marinade for your London Broil – just 4 ingredients. Make sure to let it marinate for a few hours in the refrigerator to get the full flavor.
My steak marinated for about 5 hours, but you can easily let it sit in the marinade overnight and/or all day…the longer the better as far as I’m concerned.
Always make sure to include an acid in your marinade, like vinegar or citrus. This helps tenderize the meat.
Ingredients for London Broil marinade:
This marinade makes about 1/3 cup and works well for a 1 1/2 pound cut of beef. I like to place my beef in a large ziplock bag or Pyrex storage dish to marinate. Be sure to move the meat around in the marinade periodically by massaging it through the ziplock bag or flipping it over in the storage dish.
- 1/4 cup Balsamic vinegar
- 2 TB stone ground Dijon mustard
- 1 TB Worcestershire sauce
- 4 garlic cloves, minced (or less depending on your love of garlic!)
What is the best way to cook London Broil?
In the oven, with high heat. I’m sure it would be great on the grill too, but I have only cooked London Broil this way in the oven. Make sure to bring your meat to room temperature before placing in hot oven – this will help it cook more evenly.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Using tongs, pull steak out of ziplock bag and place on broiler pan. Spoon over about 2 tablespoons of marinade over steak.
- Place in oven a cook for approximately 5-7 minutes per side (for a 1 inch steak) for medium. Add more time for a thicker steak or if you like it more well done (I recommend medium rare – medium for most tender).
- Once steak is done cooking, let rest on cutting board for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Make sure to slice against the grain (click here for a demo).
What should I serve with London Broil?
To keep things simple, I decided to roast some tomatoes and asparagus in the oven as well. Any roasted vegetables or potatoes would make a delicious side dish for this meal. We love these Roasted Red Potatoes with Smoked Paprika and make them often.
Here’s the recipe for easy Roasted Asparagus. For the tomatoes, roast plum tomato halves at the same time, with a little drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper. If you have fresh basil, sprinkle it over the tomatoes at the end.
What to do with your leftovers? Here are some great ideas for your London Broil leftovers:
I love serving leftover London Broil over a salad for lunch the next day, like this Steak Spinach Salad. Leftover sliced beef is great to add to quesadillas or stir fry too. Try it in something like this Thai Curry Spaghetti Squash– this recipe is delicious!

Looks fabulous Aggie! I love London Broil and also buy it when it goes on sale. I love the marinade and how you roasted the vegetables. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be making this!
girl I am so ready to sit down at the table with you and this fabulous meal. let’s have some wine too–a nice big bottle. LOL
My husband said this was Five-Star restaurant quality! I cooked it to exactly 145° and let it sit 10 minutes. (It was just over two inches thick). I personally don’t like beef unless it’s at least medium well, but it was delicious!
I love the Publix sales!!! I always buy Josh whatever steak is on sale that week. The tomatoes look totally delicious too. Hope you guys had a nice weekend
Looks delish Aggie! I know Grumpy would love this. I think its about time I made him a special “beef” treat myself. I tend to not make it often.
That looks great. I am going to try that for sure. I have never made London Broil before!
That looks wonderful!!! How in the world do you do those printable recipes? A special program or something? Haha I’m so not computer savvy huh?
That looks delish! I love london broil as well because it provides so many left over meat and you can be creative with what to make with it.
oh yummy! this looks so good, i love steak prepared this way!
I’m a griller too but doing it in the oven looks simple and delicious! I am going to give this a try!
That looks awesome! Love the ‘leftovers’ idea – SO smart!! Thanks for sharing as always!
Wow that looks like a perfect dinner and I think I’d enjoy that marinade on lots of things. Thanks for the recipe Aggie!
Not a big beef fan, but the marinade sounds really great. Do you think it would be good with chicken or pork? love the roasted veggies.
This looks divine. The whole mustard is making my mouth water!
Mmm.london broil is one of my favorite meats!!!!!
I’ll bet the entire family loved this Aggie…perfection.
The recipe looks delicious. I love asparagus when it’s baked or broiled (or grilled for that matter). Yum.
Your marinade looks so full of flavor! Funny that you linked to the steak and gorgonzola quesadillas… I just made them again last night with leftover London broil! YUM!
This looks amazing! I for sure am going to incorporate this into one of our weekly meals. The prep time would allow for an over night marinade which is perfect for our family!

what kind of stone ground mustard do you use?
And can I use minced garlic in a jar?
Thanks!
Hi Katherine! I have used Grey Poupon and another brand Inglehoffer I believe it’s called? I usually just check the mustard section and pick out one that I like or would like to try. I’m a mustard girl 🙂
And minced garlic in a jar would be just fine! I find it tastes little sweeter than fresh garlic but will be just as delicious.
Thanks Aggie!
Do you know which grey poupon you used?
Try the Country Dijon! That’s one I pick up often and use.
Hi! This recipe sounds awesome, but I don’t currently have Dijon mustard! Can I substitute for spicy brown or yellow?
Thanks!
Absolutely! I would probably opt for the spicy brown over the yellow for the flavor.
my husband was used to the same old way I used to make it so i wanted to try to shake things up a bit, it was a complete hit!! Even my 3 year old (mr picky) Loved it I am making it again definately!!!
Yay Carol!! So glad it was a hit, and thanks so much for letting me know!

I have never baked my London Broil, I need to try this. Your marinade sounds delicious. My go to marinade has always been Wish Bone Italian Dressing. Thanks for these new ideas.
Hi Carol. Italian dressing makes the best marinade! How do you normally cook your London Broil? Let me know if you try it this way!
This tasted great!! 👍🏼
This looks amazing, Aggie! I can’t wait to make it!
I can’t wait to make this yummy dish that contains plenty of protein and looks delicious. Thanks for sharing. Garlic flavor is an element that takes me from the flavor
its a perfect healthy dinner meal for a weekend party and i’m definitely going to make it this weekend thanks for saving my weekend aggie 🙂
Hey nice recipe. I am going to make this item in weekend! 🙂
London Broils should be going on sale at my local grocery store very soon. When they do I am added these to my list. That marinade sounds fantastic and you have everything planned in one blog post. I love this!
This looks so juicy and tender! I love how easy this meal comes together! Just in time for Father’s Day!
I’m very good at making this. I’m a fan of it, good, good, lots of nutrients

What a wonderful dish. Looks so tasty.
Can’t get enough of it
This recipe worked out perfectly! Many thanks for posting it. I used my grill and cooked it for 6 minutes per side for a 2 & 1/4 lb London broil. Medium rare goodness!
Made per directions, no changes.
My mom and I were pleased. I plan to make this often.
I’m a griller too but doing it in the oven looks simple and delicious! I am going to give this a try!
I have never heard of London Broil as a cut of meat. Maybe because I am from Texas? 🙂 Is it similar to a flank steak? I want to try this recipe, but I’m not sure what to look for at the store.
Hello, are you broiling this or baking it? You mention minutes per side, do you flip it over? Just wondering, thanks!
This looks delicious. Thanks for sharing such a yummy recipe. I will be making this.

Sounds great
Great recipe! I’m a grumpy bachelor, so here’s my weekend plan for a 3 pound slab of London Broil I pick up from my butcher at my grocery store on sale for about ten bucks.
Friday night: Carve a third of a pound off and fry it with Mexican seasoning to add to a big platter of Nachos and freshly made guacamole while I catch up on Netflix. After Netflix duties, marinade the rest of the slab overnight in the fridge per this recipe.
Saturday night: Cook London Broil per this recipe, with a big loaded baked potato and then enjoy with a bottle of Malbec as I catch up on all my Motor Trend TV shows. Put a pound and a half of leftovers in the fridge.
Sunday afternoon: Have my buddies over, all of ‘em other grumpy bachelors, and serve them big steak sandwiches with creamed horseradish on sourdough bread with chips and beer and bourbon as we watch the game or the fight on TV.
Monday: Start planning for the next weekend and thank God that He created me in His own image as a grumpy bachelor.
Best London Broil I’ve ever had! Juicy, flavorful and oh so tender!
Great recipe!. I had everything except olive oil and garlic for the marinade. Broil 550 degrees on my oven.
Four minutes on a side for me. It was rare and tender.
I’d like to try this in the oven but I don’t have a broiler pan….any suggestions?
I would use it on a regular baking sheet. It should be fine!
Just so delicious! I love it and did it yesterday. We’ve already made 2 batches in 2 days.
It So Good
That looks great. I am going to try that for sure.
This is such a great idea! I love ordering, but i’ve never thought to make my own before. I’m loving this simple marinade! Definitely going to try this the next time we have steak. Sounds perfect for the summer, too!
I found this recipe about a month ago and it’s become my go-to favorite recipe to prepare a delightful dinner on a work night. The meat is so flavorful when broiled to medium or medium-rare.
Very good marinade. I marinated the meat yesterday and grilled it today. It was very tasty and the London Broil was tender. Thank you for this recipe. I will use it again. Roofers Colorado Springs
