Cajun Baked Salmon Cakes
Baked salmon cakes with Cajun spices are great for lunches or a light dinner. This is one of the easy salmon recipes that my family begs me to make!
I was introduced to baked salmon cakes long ago, by my husband and his family. Did anyone else grow up eating these? I did not, but I have a feeling if I made these for my parents and grandparents, they would love them. Canned salmon isn’t something I typically pick up at the grocery store, but I always grab it at Costco. It’s a great deal for a 6 pack and I have found the quality of it is very good.
What is the best canned salmon?
For the best health benefits from the salmon, make sure to look for wild salmon. I like Bear & Wolf brand, though recently, I’ve been getting the Kirkland brand and it’s great to use in the Cajun baked salmon cakes.
My daughter and I made these baked salmon cakes recently. I switched up my typical Old Bay seasoning to a Cajun seasoning and they were delicious. I was so happy because my daughter loved them too and asked for them in her lunchbox.
Can I bake salmon cakes?
Yes! I baked these instead of pan frying and they came out great. You don’t have to bake them long at all, just about 10 minutes with a few extra minutes under the broiler. Definitely a quick, economical and healthy meal.
The baked salmon patties can be made ahead for meal prep, and for quick lunches too.
I don’t even heat them up sometimes – just grab and go. Great source of protein!
Salmon cakes using canned or fresh salmon are very easy to put together, just combine all the ingredients in a bowl and gently form into patties. I always like to add a little onion and bell pepper to mine, along with a little panko (cooked quinoa would be a great sub for the panko – see my 20-minute Salmon Quinoa Cakes recipe).

This seems like a good Breakfast dish to begin with! Top it up with a sunny side up and English muffins bread and we are good to go!
Thanks for sharing!
Is the bake time 10 minutes and then broil for 5-7 minutes or is it 3 minutes and then broil for 5-7 minutes?
yes, bake for 10 – then broil till browned, about 5-7 minutes!
Cooked down the onion and bell pepper before adding it to my fresh salmon and ingredients. Also added grated parmasean cheese and a little bit of Johnnys seasoning salt. It was AWESOME!!
that’s great!! I love your addition of parmesan cheese and cooking down the onion and pepper! Thank you for the feedback!
My boyfriend and I made these last night. We are from Alaska and added a few extra ingredients that we love on our salmon/halibut. We added…..
1/4c grated Parmesan (the kind you get in the jar that you put on spaghetti)
1tsp of Johnny’s Seasoning Salt
Dill to taste.
We also precooked the bell pepper and onion in a little butter until they were soft. We added the whole mixture to our other ingredients. We used fresh salmon
They came out better than we could have gotten at a restaurant. We devoured them. The leftovers we did have we used this morning for Eggs Benedict with a lemon hollandaise.
We were over the moon by this recipe. Thank you so much for sharing. We will definitely be making this again soon. We have already talked about how we can morph this for halibut patties!!
Hi Cricket!! Thanks so much for the feedback and I love what you did with the recipe – I have to try this Johnny’s seasoning salt! Your eggs benedict sound amazing!!
I just want to ask a question can you use fresh Salmon for this recipe?
yes, you can use cooked fresh salmon!
Yes!!! Use the fresh salmon. We did and it was delicious. I have since made this recipe with my own additions, for a potluck with friends and they were devoured. Nothing left after about 7 minutes on the table. Folks requested the recipe. Just debone, take off the skin, mince it up and throw it in!!!
That’s awesome Tara – thank you! I love using fresh salmon too!
Is there a nutritional breakdown of the calories in these patties?
These are so easy to make and my family loved them! Thanks!
Will it work with tuna?
This recipe was delicious. I changed nothing except addung wedges of fresh sgueesed lemon wedges to spark up some freshness to the patties. There only two if us so we will have the opportunity to make salmon patty burgers for lunch. I served ours with french fries with brown gravy. I will make this again with a little more cajun seasoning added to the patty mix! Loved the recipe especially because i cooked it in a parchment lined sheet pan, so there was very little ckean up time. I live parchment paper. I no longer use foil as it is not a healthy choice due ti research that indicated there is a high level of aluminum in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
One of my favorite recipes! I’ve especially enjoyed cooking on my fitness journey and I’ve also been using Resurge and it has completely reshaped my physique! Here’s the link for anyone who wants to check it out! https://tinyurl.com/quvd3qt
Thank you for sharing this recipe. My daughter will definitely love this because she likes both patties and salmon. I didn’t know there’s such thing as baked salmon cake so I think it’s worth a try and I’m excited about this. 🙂
Yes they are really good for quick lunches. But initially I thought it’s cookies 😉
Thanks for sharing this recipe, will definitely try this weekend.
