Thinking ahead…Homemade Foodie Gifts for the Holidays

Over the last few years, I have found myself making more and more food gifts for my family and friends for the holidays. Cookies and other sweets are usually a given but I like to get a little creative and try something different…like this homemade bbq rub and peach barbecue sauce I gave the men in my family last year.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on any homemade holiday gifts you may have made over the years. This year I would love to make a hot sauce and bottle it up for gifts so if you have a recipe please share it with me!

I started a Homemade Foodie Gift series over at Family Kitchen where I’ll be sharing ideas for homemade gifts for the upcoming holidays. I’ll be posting a couple ideas a week for the next few weeks and have already shared this great Pumpkin Pie Spice and Cinnamon Honey Butter, if you missed those be sure to go check them out!

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love all these ideas Aggie! Never to early to start thinking about the holidays especially since we have snow in the forecast today!

  2. Great to start thinking ahead. And it is nice to have some of these packaged up real pretty so you can bring it out at a moment’s notice when your neighbor comes over with that tray of cookies ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I like to make cookies in a jar (put all the dry ingredients into a jar and have a tag with what they have to add (eggs and what not)). I also make a nice pancake mix that goes into a jar and jams and jellies too…they have gone over really well with the families that get them. I also like to give refrigerator pickles too!

  4. The bbq rub is a great idea! My dad would lovvve that!

  5. Wow! These look like great holiday gift ideas! Thanks for sharing! I better get started soon.

  6. A couple of years ago, I squeezed the oranges off my tree and made fresh orange juice and then shucked several pomegranates and put them in jars to give as gifts. It felt like a gift of health and time since the shucking part takes a while ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I think homemade gifts like this are awesome and are usually much more cherished than another tie or pair of socks ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Best gifts ever are ones made with love – thanks for the ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I love these delicious gifts, Aggie. I think I can maybe do it this year:)You inspire me.xx

  10. Aggie, I love homemade foodie gifts. I haven’t done it in a few years but I used to give cookie jars…almost all of the ingredients to bake cookies. I should do that again!

  11. I love this, Aggie! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m trying homemade vanilla extract as gifts this year. http://annies-eats.net/2011/10/13/diy-vanilla-extract/ Hope all is well with you!

  12. Looking forward to some new ideas. I give out homemade vanilla and lots and lots of cookies!!

  13. I love these ideas. This would be great to put in a basket with some grilling tools and a barbecue cookbook.

  14. I always give jars of Christmas mini cookies. I tried something else last year, and everyone was dissapointed. So I stick with what I know lol!

  15. I LOVE the idea of homemade gifts…. Great posts. Keep ’em comin’! ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t wait to make some this year.

  16. What a lovely thing to do for the holidays. And thanks for the reminder that it’s a perfect time to start thinking about home made gifts.

  17. I love any and all homemade gift ideas! I give away homemade jams, jellies, boozy preserved fruits, etc. every year ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. I love the idea of giving away homemade gifts. I still have a huge gallon of limoncello that I have been meaning to give away. Maybe this year ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Homemade gifts are always the best. I made a couple last year but this time I’m going to start way early to make sure I finish in time.

  20. great ideas! we’ve been doing homemade Christmas the past couple of years, and I love it.

We do lots of candies, barks, spiced nuts, and cookies, plus things like DIY flavored oils or vinegars, jams, sugar scrubs, etc.

  21. I absolutely loved the idea on this blog: http://aemayer.com/blog/2011/11/easyholidaygifts/

    Immediately usable and appropriate stuff!

  22. I just love these ideas darlin’! I can’t wait to get started on all of may making and gift making. These are going on my list for sure.

  23. I make everything I give as gifts from my kitchen. This year I’ll be giving home cured brown sugar bourbon bacon, cranberry or coffee liqueur and wood butter (a mixture that is amazing for cutting boards and wooden spoons and bowls). Last year I made a rum caramel sauce that everyone loved; just adding a touch of rum to a regular recipe for caramel did the trick. I always make my Grandmother’s pecan butter balls too and though I often bake for days, this year that’s it…the liqueurs are a big hit and take the place of those dozens of cookies!
