Today my friend Alyssa from Everyday Maven is here to share what she keeps in her fridge on a regular basis. What’s always drawn me to Alyssa’s blog is her simple, family friendly and good-for-you recipes. She keeps things on the light side using whole foods and is always sharing something new I want to try (hello Italian Roasted Cauliflower with Marinara!). A couple things I noticed about Alyssa’s fridge right away – we have the same refrigerator and I just picked up a jar of Bubbies pickles last week. 🙂

Thanks so much for being here Alyssa!

Hi Everyone! My name is Alyssa and I am visiting today from Everyday Maven to give you all a glimpse into our fridge! Everyday Maven is where I share my real food recipes made with clean ingredients. I am a mom and while I love good food and won’t sacrifice taste, it’s still got to be relatively easy.

I love this series so much – taking a peek into other people’s fridges gives such insight into what is going on in their homes and kitchens.

Taking pictures of my fridge wound up being quite stressful. The lighting in my kitchen pretty much sucks and since I have one of those side-by-side fridge/freezer combos, it’s not that easy to get a good shot of everything. I tried though and after taking way too many photos and having the fridge warning thing beep at me non-stop, I decided to go with these pictures and call it a day.

A lot of produce (avocados, onions, garlic, tomatoes, squash, etc.) and fruit (apples, pears, bananas, melons, etc.) never makes it to the fridge in our house unless it has been cut or cooked and needs to be saved. What is in our fridge truly changes with the seasons but these 10 things are almost always there…

Eggs – We eat eggs almost every morning and use them in everything from homemade mayo, to puddings and pancakes. Good quality eggs are always found in our fridge and there is usually a tub of hard-boiled eggs tucked in there as well.

Condiments and Misc. Flavor Enhancers – What food blogger worth their salt isn’t obsessed with condiments? Our most used condiments are mustard (spicy, Dijon and yellow), hot sauces (so many!), Asian ingredients like toasted sesame oil, fish sauce, coconut aminos, tamari, tamarind paste and Sriracha. Some other products I always have on hand to add flavor are Anchovy Paste, Tahini, Miso, fresh ginger root and grated Locatelli cheese.

Pickled and Fermented Things – There is never a shortage of pickled and fermented things. My husband and I try to add at least one fermented food to our breakfast and most recently it is Kimchi. Our local Costco has a great deal on this huge tub of Kimchi. Other than that, we always have Pickles, Olives, Sauerkraut, Pickled Herring and Homemade Pickled Jalapenos. I brew my own Kombucha but took a break over the winter. I plan to start back up in a couple of weeks!

Bacon – My son is obsessed with bacon. Obsessed. We always have bacon in both our fridge and our freezer.

Defrosting Tray – I keep a half sheet pan in the fridge at all times and use it as my “defrost tray”. This contains any leaks or mess when defrosting meat, chicken, pork, seafood, etc. and is a major time saver since I can just toss it in the dishwasher if something does leak instead of having to stop and clean out the whole fridge. (more…)

Warning: This post is going to make you extremely hungry!!
Today my beautiful friend Flavia is here, sharing what’s in her fridge in her Italian kitchen. Flavia’s food is “home” to me, it brings me such comfort to read her posts and how she describes her food and writes her recipes. I was lucky enough to meet Flavia in person a few years ago and I felt like I was sharing a meal with an Italian cousin of mine. Oh how I wish we could share a glass of wine and cook a meal together! Thanks so much for being here Flavia!

Get to know Flavia more through her blog Flavia’s Flavors, on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

***************************************************************************

Buon giorno! Benvenuti into the Flavia’s Flavors kitchen! I’m so happy to be here today giving you a peek into my refrigerator. It’s been so much fun reading what other food bloggers keep in their refrigerators. I’ve always been curious about what other bloggers like to have on hand, and I’ve been enjoying Aggie’s 10 Things In My Fridge series. I was flattered that Aggie asked me to participate. Grazie, Aggie!

I love keeping a well-stocked refrigerator so that I always have fresh and healthy ingredients ready to use. I cook and bake mostly from scratch, so I enjoy having a variety of staple ingredients in my refrigerator. I typically grocery shop once a week and when I get home from the grocery store, I wash, dry and prep all the produce, re-package and freeze meats to cook later in the week, and do an overall wipe-down of all the refrigerator shelves and drawers before re-stocking the ingredients. This way, everything in the refrigerator is organized and ready to use for meals and snacks. It takes some time up front, but it gives me more time during the week to try new recipes, make our weekly dinners, and enjoy the time I spend in the kitchen.

1. Fresh Produce & Herbs: This is by far the largest category on my grocery list. I try to buy organic produce most of the time, especially the fruits and vegetables on the “Dirty Dozen” list, but I don’t stress out about it if the organic selection isn’t the freshest or is too pricey. Produce and herbs that are always in my refrigerator includes lettuce, carrots, celery, basil, dill, zucchini, apples, baby spinach, red bell peppers, broccoli, and berries. Out of the refrigerator on my counters and pantry are: avocados, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes. I love using fresh, seasonal vegetables in my Marinated Roasted Red Peppers, Swiss Chard Aglio e Olio and Roasted Vegetable Farro Salad.

2. Cheese: I love cheese. I eat it every day, and my deli drawer is always stocked with a variety of formaggio. I am never without Parmigiano Reggiano. I also have fresh mozzarella, ricotta, feta, goat cheese, cream cheese, cottage cheese, Muenster, and Havarti. Some of my favorite recipes to make using cheese include Eggplant Parmigiana and Baked Penne.

3. Dairy Products: I’m not a milk drinker, but I always have organic 2% milk to pour into my cereal and to make the béchamel sauce that goes into my Pasta with Bechamel Sauce (bad pictures alert!). I always have buttermilk to use in baked goods, and my Buttermilk Waffles. I also never run out of half & half for my morning cup of caffè, and heavy whipping cream to add to a sauce or make homemade whipped cream.

My Texas friend Rachel is here today and I have to say, I really enjoyed getting a peek inside her fridge! I’m loving her fridge trays (filled with avocados and lots of fruit!) and her cereal containers up top. Rachel you have given me some ideas, thank you! Our fridges have a lot in common including an abundance of eggs, fruits and veggies as well as rattling doors filled with condiments.

Rachel is a sweetheart and lives life fully while sharing her food and family with us on her blog A Southern Fairytale. (I’ve never told her this, but I’ve always thought of her as the real life Connie Britton character from Friday Night Lights, maybe it’s just the red hair and the Texas accent 😉 ). You can also get to know her better through Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Thanks for being here friend! xo

***********************************************************************

Hey y’all! Rachel here. I’m popping over today from A Southern Fairytale to share my family’s fridge with y’all for Aggie’s, 10 Things In My Fridge series. I was so excited when Aggie asked me to be a part of this fun series! I love getting glimpses into other’s lives, seeing how we’re similar, and how we’re different.

The kitchen is the heart of our home, that’s where everyone gathers, it’s where many of our memories are made, family legacies are passed from generation to generation. Our fridge is covered with artwork, hand prints, pictures, and notices. The inside of the fridge can look different from day to day, depending upon who is in the house, what’s happening that week, and how many friends and neighbors have been through. When I’m recipe testing, the fridge becomes a catch-all and is often stuffed with containers filled with ingredients, partially finished recipes etc…

While attempting to photograph our fridge for this series, I realized how completely NOT photogenic our fridge is. It looked quite bright and lovely when we bought it, but once anything is placed on the shelves up top, it immediately blocks any light from above, and there’s only light from above. I ended up blowing the dust off my seldom used Speedlite and doing some creative angling, which was highly amusing to my 7 year old son who happened to be home sick from school that day.

I’m not complaining, though! I feel blessed to have a refrigerator, and especially one full of food!

(or pretty darn close.) Amy’s blog, Very Culinary, is filled with the most beautiful photography and fantastic recipes (this one in particular has become a household regular & favorite for my family, you all have to make it). She’s a fun, down-to-earth chick, one I’d love to hang out in the kitchen with listening to music and eating pie (freshly baked by her of course). Thanks so much for being here today Amy!

**************************************************************************

Hi gang! Amy from Very Culinary here. I think it goes without saying that my refrigerator is never this organized! But for the sake of this fun little project, I cleaned it up a bit. It actually motivated me to purge some things – like the near-empty salad dressing bottles, circa 2012. Hello. But what you see, are all items that my fridge is never without!

1. White wine. I don’t drink it, but I sure do cook with it. A lot.

2. Lots and lots of eggs! I’m a big fan of breakfast for dinner. And I also bake. So needless to say, I go through a lot of eggs. I’d love to have some free-range chickens of my own. Someday.

3. Bacon, ground sausage, and hash browns. I go through that stuff like mad. Perhaps because of that whole breakfast for dinner thing ^^^.

4. Breads! White bread, raisin bread, bagels, and Stonefire naan flatbread. I would never go gluten-free by choice!

5. Olives and dill pickles – in things, on things, or just by themselves. Pure love.

6. Sauces and spreads
(a) homemade lemon curd – I make a new batch once a month. Candy, I tell ya.
(b) Sabra hummus – the next best thing to homemade. Dare I say, maybe even better?
(c) Greek yogurt – for my daily smoothies!
(d) Philadelphia cream cheese – because…cream cheese. Paleeze.
(e) margarine – in addition to real butter, not instead of.
(f) maple syrup – mmmmm.
(g) nut butters – because of my the kids’ peanut allergy *sad violin*, but also because they’re delicious!

7. Heavy cream and chicken stock – I never have to worry about expiration dates on the heavy cream, I use it too fast. And I always have chicken and/or vegetable stock at the ready. The stock and cream end up together in so many stews and pasta dishes. Bliss.

8. Fruits and vegetables – in particular, strawberries, blueberries, spinach, tomatoes, and bell peppers – love, love, love. These are foods that take up permanent residence in my planter boxes during the growing season. if I ever ran out of these items, I would have a very unhappy house.

9. Cheese, Pillsbury Grands and crescent rolls – cheeeeeese. Stinky, spicy, buttery, nutty… I love them all! And Pillsbury. I wish I owned stock in General Mills.

10. Bologna, hot dogs, salami, and pepperoni – we’re all about our lunch meats here. Perfect for school sandwiches, but also for pizza and quesadillas.

What you don’t see! – milk. SO. MUCH. MILK. We bought a second refrigerator for the garage to hold all of our milk. Well, not quite. Sort of. Ha. You also don’t see all the butter, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. All staples!

Thanks Aggie! This series is so much fun. I loved being a part of it!

Do you all know Sheila?? I have never met Sheila in real life but I am determined to one day. Every time I read her posts I always think – I wish we lived closer, like in the same parts of town closer. I want to be part of her book club, I want to drink wine and chat with her and I want to hang out at the beach with her and her family. Sheila is FUN, down to earth, and real…my kind of people. And not to mention, she sure knows how to feed people well considering she has a good sized family (4 kiddos!) herself. I’m so happy she’s here today, I’ve been really looking forward to snooping inside her fridge! Thanks for showing us inside Sheila!

Get to know Sheila better on her blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

********************************************************************************

Well Hello! And welcome to my fridge! Thanks Aggie for having me. This is such a fun series. I think we all have a little bit of snoop in us. Especially “us foodies”, we like to see what other foodies have in their refrigerators. Just like I’m sure you fashion forward sistah’s (which I am not!) like to see what others have in their closets. Am I right? I do not particularly like to see what others have in their closets, it only makes mine look more dismal! But bring on the fridgidaire perusing! I am all over it….and obviously you are too or you wouldn’t be here! HA!

Here are 10 things (that are always) in my fridge!

1.) Butter, butter, and more butter. A day without butter is like a pool with out water. Empty and useless. OK maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but hey we like butter. I love to bake and although I will admit the best pie crust, in my opinion, is made with shortening, butter is still essential to my baking. If you stop by my house you will often find cookies, muffins, or some sort of quick bread baking. I have three hungry teens, and one tween so nothing last long in this house! What doesn’t get eaten, goes in lunches or gets frozen for a non baking day.

2.) Spices: Somewhere I read that red spices keep longer and stay fresher if kept in the refrigerator, I’m not sure where I read that, or if it’s even true, but I keep my paprika’s, curry’s, cumin, coriander, chili powders, turmeric and saffron in the fridge. Yes I said paprika’S! I love smoked paprika it gives amazing flavor to stews, and soups. It’s also amazing used in rubs and marinades. Sweet Hungarian paprika is lovely in chicken paprikash, as well as goulash and any number of other dishes! For the love of curry! I always have a few different curry blends in my fridge. Garam Marsala is one of our favorite spices, I use it in marinades, sauces, as well as soups and stews. Then there’s the chili powders, cumin, and coriander for the love of Mexican food! I could not imagine a world with out colorful spices. Did I say red pepper flakes? I told you we love spicy food!

What is your favorite and most used spice or herb?

3.) Condiments and Sauces: Worcestershire sauce is perfect in marinades and salad dressings. Soy sauce, hoisin, red curry paste, mole, and Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce all condiments that I could not live without. We also love some good old fashioned ketchup, and mustard. I prefer making salad dressing or vinaigrette from scratch, but my kids like to take salads in their lunches and they prefer store bought Ranch and Italian dressing. We also have somewhat of a salsa addiction, just saying. I spy three different salsas, can you find more? Not to mention Sanders hot fudge and caramel sauces, the best stuff on the planet!

{Pssst…yes that is duct tape holding the bottom left hand storage unit of our fridge together. Can I mention I need a new fridge (for many reasons)? Why don’t appliances last forever anymore?}

4.) Milk: Milk for drinking, the Johnson’s drink a minimum of 6 gallons of milk per week. White milk, chocolate milk, warm milk, cold milk, milk in smoothies, milk on cereal, and granola. Milk for ice cream shakes and malteds! Thankfully we have an extra fridge in the basement that I keep 2-4 extra gallons of milk in so I’m not running to the store everyday for milk!

5.) Jelly and Jams: Another obsession of ours. I would have to say strawberry is our favorite, with grape, and peach coming in a close second. But then there’s cherry, apple butter, blackberry, and raspberry. In my opinion one can never have too many jams on hand. I love to use jam and jelly in marinades , salad dressings, and in baking. I have to say peanut butter and fruit jam are definitely bff’s in this household.

6.) Vegetables & Fruit: Living in Michigan it’s hard to find local produce year around, so quite a bit of our vegetable intake is canned or frozen. I always try to keep Earthbound Farms Spinach and Mixed Greens on hand for smoothies and salads as well as a few other snacking veggies. Now if it were summer fresh vegetables from the local farmers markets would be falling out of my crisper drawer!

We always have apples, mandarin oranges on hand, as well as grapes and lemons. I love using mangos in salads, smoothies, and even in curries so if I can find nice mangos I always buy them!

7.) Leftovers: I spy spaghetti noodles, marinara sauce, and leftover white rice. We always have spaghetti noodles and rice on hand for a quick stir fry. My kids also love a big carb filled plate of Pasta Carbonara. We are not great at eating up leftovers, but they do come in handy when the week gets busy, or Ken works a late shift it’s easy for him to warm up something to eat.

8.) Dips: Hummus, guacamole, dip for vegetables are always front and center in our fridge. I often will put fresh veggies out with pretzel crisps or pita bread and dip for the kids so when they walk in the door from school they can grab a fresh healthy snack.

9.) Eggs: We love eggs. They are versatile, tasty, and super healthy. Eggs are the perfect food for our busy family. All of my kiddos know how to make themselves eggs and toast. When life gets busy with sports, music, and various academics it’s helpful that they know how to make themselves something to eat, because this mom can’t always be there when their hunger hits. Did I mention that my in-laws have chickens? Did I mention that my luverly sister-n-law delivers farm fresh eggs to my door? I’m spoiled rotten!!

10.) Dairy: Did you notice some dairy in my fridge? It’s actually a little bit insane. We always have three or four types of yogurt because everyone has their favorite, not to mention we love yoghurt smoothies. Sour cream is essential to life. Buttermilk for baking (pancakes, muffins, bread, biscuits). Whole milk also for baking and sauces. Half and half for Kens coffee, and Cece’s tea. I also spy coffee creamer hiding in the back for guests. CHEESE glorious cheese! At the moment there are ten different cheeses, this is a low number. I usually like to keep goat and blue cheese (my favorites) on hand for salads. We love cheese!

What do you spy in my fridge that I didn’t mention? Do our fridges have similarities? I try to be real, as you can see our fridge is kind of messy. I actually cleaned it up a bit, made some rows. Tried to clean up my act for my visitors, it’s still sort of wonky and messy! Oh well! I’m thankful and blessed that my fridge runneth over!

Aggie, Thanks again for having me in your space! I can’t wait to see who’s next. XO Sheila

Another week, another fridge! Are you liking the series?

This week I’ve got my friend Kim of Just For Clicks here opening the doors of her fridge to show us how she feeds herself and her family. Kim and I connected a few years ago through our blogs and twitter. We hit it off instantly and have been friends ever since, always chatting it up whether it be about mom stuff, house stuff, blog stuff and of course…food stuff. Kim recently started Weight Watchers and has been inspiring me with all of her food pics on Instagram lately. I love this girl and if you don’t already, I know you will too! Thanks for being here today Kim!

Get to know Kim better on her blog Just For Clicks, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

*****************************************************************************

Hi! I’m Kim from Just For Clicks and I’m so happy to be a part of this series here at Aggie’s online home. These kinds of posts are among my favorites… I always love learning what others like and use as a way to try new things. So today, I hope you find something new to try yourself! Here’s what’s inside my fridge:

1.) Yogurt and Eggs: I always keep Chobani yogurt on hand for a quick breakfast or snack. I also like to keep a tub of non-fat plain yogurt on hand for overnight oats or yogurt parfaits. For eggs, I always look for Omega 3 Organic eggs. We eat a lot of eggs in our family (Breakfast for Dinner happens weekly).

2.) Nut Butters: My daughter lives on peanut butter. She’s a picky eater, so natural peanut butter helps me to get protein into her system. I also go through a lot of almond butter as a topping to an english muffin, for the overnight oats, and for Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls (my favorite go-to Clean Eating treat).

3.) Fruit for Easy Snacking: To encourage my family to make healthy food choices, I try to keep things like fresh fruit easy to grab quickly. So I wash grapes and keep them in a bowl at eye level. I also always keep organic strawberries, blueberries and raspberries next to them. I also keep asparagus in a glass container filled with cold water to keep it fresh till ready to use.

4.) Pickles, Condiments, Etc.: I LOVE pickles! So you will always find them in my fridge. A lotta days I will eat a turkey wrap for lunch and it will be loaded with pickles. Mayo — necessary for sandwiches. Buffalo Sauce. Ketchup. Jelly to keep my girl going with her PB&Js. Syrup (love the REAL syrup from Costco). Oh and dog food… because one of my Labs must have canned food mixed with her dry or she will literally NOT eat.

5.) Fruits and Veggies: I keep red and green apples, oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes, etc. in the fruit drawer. And I keep plenty of carrots, bell peppers, and leafy greens in the veggie drawer. (PS ~ Thanks to Aggie, I wash my greens and put them in a bag with a damp paper towel so they are ready to use.

6.) Cheeses and Nuts: Feta cheese. String Cheese. American Cheese (my picky eater LOVES grilled cheese AND my dogs need it to take their meds). Flaxseed meal. Raw Almonds. Pine nuts. Almond meal.

7.) Lunchmeat, Bacon, Etc.: Every week I buy Applegate Farms (because of their humane animal treatment) Turkey breast for sandwiches. Turkey Bacon is a huge staple in my house. Chicken Sausages (another THANKS to Aggie for the suggestion) make quick dinners when roasted or sautéed with veggies. Turkey Breast Hotdogs. Ezekial Sprouted Grain Tortillas.

8.) Sauces: My man loves Barbecue. So at any given time we have MULTIPLE bottles of BBQ sauce. My boys also are addicted to hot sauce, so we will also always have MULTIPLE bottles on hand. Soy sauce. Worcestershire Sauce. Salad Dressings. Mustards.

9.) Milk, Juice and Butter: I keep organic, humanely handled dairy milk on hand. I always keep Unsweetened Almond Milk for cereal and making smoothies. Orange Juice. Butter is also ALWAYS gonna be in my fridge!

10.) Coffee Creamer: I loved that Liz shared her unhealthy staples that she still keeps in her fridge. I will say that, though I have tried, coffee creamer is something I will not give up! The top one is my “healthy” creamer which rarely gets used — it’s coconut creamer. It just doesn’t give me the creaminess I need. So I go for the best-of-the-worst and use Bailey’s French Vanilla. The ingredients aren’t perfect but there’s nothing hydrogenated so I feel a bit better.

What you don’t see? Well, for starters, I am hoping my fridge has an early demise. We’ve moved a few times and this is my least favorite refrigerator EVER. The ice and water dispenser takes up half the space and it’s so hard to fit much in it. So, we keep a fridge in the garage for overflow. Diet Coke and Diet Dr Pepper live there. As does Chardonnay. There’s also: Reddi Whip, Pudding Cups (my low point Weight Watchers snack or dessert) and canned cinnamon rolls for lazy Saturday mornings.

Okay, so that’s it!! Aggie, thank you so much for inviting me to share my fridge today! You’re friendship is a rich blessing that I’m so grateful blogging gave me. I just love this series and had so much fun being a part to it. Can’t wait to see the others you have lined up.

And I hope to meet you all! So please don’t be shy. I’d love to connect with you via my blog and social media!!

Hi, Sandy here from Reluctant Entertainer. I’m a little nervous today to be Aggie’s first guest for her new series, 10 Things in my Fridge, but I’m going to just go for it!

For me, the kitchen is the heart of our home, it’s the most common place where we gather for coffee, snacks, breakfast, to chat while cooking, to cook together for dinner or a party, and where guests come and get drinks and appetizers before we host a dinner party. It’s a well-used room in the house, and I love my kitchen.

I recently got a new fridge that I love. It’s all lit up and fancy, with LED lights, slick on the outside, functional on the inside, and stocked with lots of healthy foods (and a few unhealthy items, too). It’s usually ready for some sort of entertaining, whether it be impromptu (guests are coming in 30 minutes!) or planned out (a dinner party for 6-8, my favorite size). Of course I head to Trader Joe’s quite often, or our local Farmer’s market when our own garden isn’t producing, because we try to eat fresh as often as we can!

So here goes, my favorite top 10 things in my fridge:

1. Greek yogurt. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, making cream sauces or waffle batter, or parfaits (little jars of prettiness for overnight guests).

2. Fresh basil (and other herbs). We daily use fresh herbs in salads, dishes, on sandwiches or wraps. Life is better when herbs are involved! (Basil in the jar is for ambience, only. Normally we step outside and snip some from our herb trough.)

3. Eggs. I never want to run out of eggs. You just have to have them for baking, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the perfect food for when you have nothing else to eat in the house.

4. Kale or spinach. We use daily for juice and smoothies, salads, casseroles. Yum! You have to have your greens!

5. Pesto. Always have a jar of pesto for appetizers, lasagna, grilled cheese sandwiches, sliders, pasta.

6. Cheese. Bottom drawer is full of feta, Parmesan, gouda, goat …we love cheese, ready for sandwiches, pizza, enchiladas, tacos, lasagna, and tasty appetizers.

7. Salami. My favorite quick and easy appetizer for guests is Salami Chips. Bake and serve, but they’re also nice for gourmet sandwiches or wraps. Perfect for when my boys are home from college. Salami is “man” food.

8. Silk (organic soy milk products). It’s what we use daily in smoothies and on cereal. Silk products always grace our fridge.

9. Rotisserie chicken. Always keep a rotisserie stocked and ready for last-minute company, to make an easy pasta dish, enchiladas, soups, or to go on the salad!

10. Salsa and fudge. Sorry, it seems like (2) items here, but since they’re both from Trader Joe’s, these are 2 of my favorites. Corn Chili (salsa) which goes on sandwiches, wraps, in Mexican food, soups, pasta, anything! And their chocolate fudge. Do I need to say what this goes on? You can use it for frosting, ice cream, or my favorite—eat with a spoon.

There are so many more items I’d love to talk about. I noticed Aggie mentioned leftovers. We always have leftovers and we love them for lunch the next day – in salads, wraps, or with eggs (depending on what it is). We are indeed a leftover family.

Every single bite.

I’m also very grateful when my fridge is stocked and ready, because I know that many are struggling with wanting to eat healthy and entertain, but they can’t. That’s when having a well stocked fridge comes in handy, so we can take meals to others, and bless them in their homes, or when they visit in our own.

Thank you Aggie, for letting me share here today! I love a well stocked fridge, but I never want to take it for granted.

I thought it would be fun to start a series here on the blog where each week (on Thursdays) you’ll be able to take a peek inside one of my blogger friends’ refrigerators…starting with mine!

1. Yogurt – holy yogurt! I always have a million different types of (mostly Greek) yogurt in my fridge. My kids have their favorites, my husband and I have our own and then there are the bigger sized tubs of French Vanilla for parfaits and Plain for a sour cream substitute. There may or may not be a couple of boxes of Greek yogurt tubes in the freezer for lunch boxes too. Apparently we are a family of Greek yogurt junkies.

2. Hot sauces, bbq sauces & mustards – I guess this qualifies as the condiment category? These are the big 3 we can’t live without. They are almost like collector’s items too, we love scouring the shelves of specialty and gourmet shops to try something new.

3. Feta – I don’t leave Costco without this huge container of feta. And when I do you know because almost every recipe I post for the next month has feta in it.

4. Milk(s) – every milk serves its purpose. 2% organic milk for the kids, unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or my new fave coconut milk) for my smoothies and refrigerator oats, and vanilla (sweetened) almond milk for my husband’s cereal. And then there is the French Vanilla Soy Creamer…does that qualify as milk too?

5. Flaxmeal – I’m over this huge bag of flaxmeal. It’s taking up too much real estate in my tiny counter depth fridge – note to self: do not purchase flaxmeal at Costco anymore.

6. Can of whipped cream – random purchase for birthday pecan pie last month. You can’t have pecan pie without whipped cream in my opinion. I’m wondering how long it will last in the fridge before a) we have another reason to use it or b) I chuck it.

7. Eggs – panic sets when we get down to the last 2 eggs. If we are lucky there is a backup package in our extra fridge in the garage.

8. Cheese – I know I mentioned feta, but that container is mostly used by just me. In my deli drawer I always have blocks of cheese and cheese sticks for recipes and snacking. Blocks of cheese come in super handy when you have impromptu get-togethers, there is absolutely nothing bad about a plate of cheese, fruit and crackers alongside a bottle of wine. Or alongside juice boxes. 🙂

9. Bags of spinach – our family goes through a good amount of spinach each week. I should be proud of that right? We have spinach in smoothies, on sandwiches and in salads most every day.

10. Leftovers – I don’t love leftovers, but the right kind of leftovers make for great lunches throughout the week or easy dinners for the kids and husband when I just want a salad.

Hope you enjoyed this post! I’ve got some bloggers lined up over the next several weeks that are willing to open up their refrigerators for us…stay tuned!
