Mongolian Beef

It’s been fun experimenting with Asian cooking lately.
I have been intimidated by it for so long, yet it is one of our favorite foods so I would so love to be able to eat it more often without feeling guilty about getting take out all the time.

Mongolian Beef

I recently found this recipe on Joelen’s Culinary Adventures. This blog is full of good stuff, there is so much to read and look through, I just love it!!

Joelen’s Mongolian Beef recipe is so easy to make…I had a lean sirloin steak in the freezer and sliced it up very thin. I served it with stir fried broccoli and snap peas and brown rice. This meal was perfect for a weeknight and made plenty for leftovers for lunch the next day.

  1. This looks so fresh, healthy and tasty! I’m allergic to seafood. Do you think I could just leave out the oyster sauce, or subtitute something?

I left some awards for you on my blog.

  2. I just started cooking with oyster sauce so no substitute came to mind, but I found this thread on recipezaar that might be helpful!

If anyone knows a good oyster sauce substitute please share!

  5. I made a mongolian beef last winter when we were reading about Ghengis Khan, and it was actually a similar recipe. I have yet to post my asian-inspired recipes on my blog but here’s my favorite one from my reference site (sorry, no picture yet):

  9. I do know a good subsitute!!! Last week I was reading Cooks Illustrated and soy sauce or even worschsire (what? no, I can’t spell that! haha) works as a perfect sub.

  10. This is one of my favorite dishes. I would second that soy sauce or even worschsire is an excellent substitute!!!!

  11. My hubby would love this. He always orders this type of dish when we eat out. It looks delicious.
My fave stir fry that is so easy and super fast is: http://maresfoodandfun.blogspot.com/2008/04/chicken-and-zucchini-stir-fry.html
We make it a couple times a month and always take it to friends and neighbors. Plus, like all stir-fries it is so versatile, that you can use whatever veggies you have on hand.
of course, the other fave is Pot Stickers:http://maresfoodandfun.blogspot.com/2008/08/turkey-pot-stickers-and-prudys-asian.html
I make them at least once a month and freeze a bunch for my hubby. He loves them.
