Coffee for Dessert {Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Giveaway – Closed}

by Aggies Kitchen on July 2, 2012

I grew up in a household of coffee drinkers. If I remember correctly, there was pretty much always a pot of coffee on, if not at least the discussion of making a pot of coffee the minute we walked in the door from wherever. We lived with my grandparents for a long time when I was little (in NY) and my aunt lived nearby, so between the three women in my family (and their friends) you could always count on someone wanting a cup of coffee.

I obviously drink coffee, and really can’t function – nor do I want to function – without it in the morning. My mid-morning iced coffee is a necessary treat I look forward to as well – especially during this time of year. But for whatever reason, the coffee making stops there. I’ve never been one to brew a pot in the late afternoon or evening after dinner, unless we have company over and someone requests it.

Needless to say there’s something nostalgic about the smell of coffee brewing any time other than first thing in the morning. It brings me back to being young, and seeing 3 women at the kitchen table talking, laughing, being family. It was always a comforting sight and I miss it.

A whiff of Dunkin’ Donuts Toasted Almond coffee brought me back to those days for some reason. There’s something about that distinct sweet almond scent that reminded me of the coffee-drinking women in my family and it made me smile. Maybe it’s the Italian almond cookies they used to feed me while they drank their coffee that I’m remembering…hmmm.

Dunkin’ Donuts recently shared with me a couple bags of their seasonal coffee blends, Strawberry Shortcake and Toasted Almond. I have tasted Toasted Almond before and absolutely love its sweet almond flavor and enjoy it iced or hot. A cup of it tastes like dessert. Their Strawberry Shortcake coffee was totally new to me and I was very intrigued by it. The smell from the bag was definitely strawberry, but very subtle and appealing. I enjoyed the taste and will be using it in rotation for my morning coffee this summer.  Both flavors would make a really nice afternoon or evening cup of coffee when you are craving something sweet but don’t necessarily want dessert.

You can find these seasonal blends in the coffee aisle of your grocery store or visit their site to find out more about Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Grocery and where you can purchase some near you. If you want to hear about promotions, receive coupons and find out about any special offers, you can sign up here.

I just recently, over the past few years, became a coffee drinker. I have to say I really enjoy and crave that first cup in the morning. The iced in the summer isn’t half bad either. :)
