Sweet Ending to a Perfect Summer Day – Grilled Peaches and Plums with Vanilla Ice Cream

Aaaahhh summer. Days like today are the reason why I love summer. Ask me if I love summer when I am dragging around town running errands when it’s almost 100 degrees out… not so much. But today was perfect. We took a short ride (30 minutes) to New Smyrna Beach where we spent most of the day playing in the waves and sand. Now, I’ll tell you that my days at the beach are not the same relaxing days as they used to be, these days I am constantly on watch and can’t relax for a second, my 3 1/2 year old son jumping monster waves while my 17 month old daughter is speed crawling the opposite way…aaah! (as I am sure moms everywhere can understand!) But something about being near the ocean just brings a sense of calm. I always leave the beach tired in a good way, feeling refreshed.

We got home later in the afternoon and jumped in the pool to cool off. After an easy dinner (taco night!) we treated ourselves to some sweet peaches and plums that I picked up on the way home at a farm stand on the side of the road (children asleep in the backseat, husband patiently waiting for me in the front seat). Grilled fruit with a scoop of Vanilla Bean ice cream. Delish!!
Grilled Peaches and Plums
peaches and/or plums

Vanilla ice cream
Slice and separate peaches and plums down the middle around the pit. Spray with non stick spray and sprinkle with sugar before placing cut side down on hot grill (medium-high heat). Let cook for about 5 minutes.
Place in bowl or plate and top with heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream! Enjoy!

Here are some pictures of the cute little farm stand that we stopped by on the way home. Their farm was right off the road in a small town called Osteen. It’s run by a couple and their daughter that live right there on the farm. They were very friendly and super nice. I asked them if they get a lot of business from the beach traffic and they told me that it has slowed down a bunch since the gas prices are so high. That made me sad because they are so far out of the way I can’t imagine they get too much local traffic. So if you are ever driving down 415 from Lake Mary to New Smyrna stop by and pick up some produce from them! : )

  1. The smiles on Sammy's and Gina's faces says it all!!! (& Larry's too) Yes, the days of summer!!! Your grilled fruit and ice cream look and feel like the simple but delicious days of summer.

  2. What a way to end a beautiful day at the beach. I know what you mean about not being able to relax. Maybe we’ll really be able to relax when they turn 18, but I doubt it. That’s when the real trouble starts.

  3. awww, you little ones are adorable!! Kids are so much fun at the beach, even if there is 10 times more work in bringing them! Grilled peaches are so yummy and paired with ice cream looks even better.

  4. Looks like everyone had a great time at the beach! I admire your bravery. The beach with 2 little ones is something I have yet to face! I’m sticking close to home and the sandbox…for now, anyway! :o)
